During each day of the week (except weekends) I'll be posting the pattern of a Disney Inspired Princess Ribbon. Fun, huh?! Today we're doing Alice in Wonderland. Now, I know she's not a 'princess' but how can we leave her out? She's completely adorable;) Get all the tutorials for all the Disney Princesses as I post them in the link below:

Solar System Blanket or Carpet + Bonus Science Lesson

Brian and I are constantly watching the Science channel. We took a couple astronomy classes together in college and every since I've been spellbound by the perils, possibilities and profusion of the universe. My only complaint is that every show on the Science channel about the universe is pretty much exactly the same with exactly the same graphics. Planets colliding, lands erupting, suns bursting. I still find it fascinating none-the-less.

So, I'd like to share my love of the universe with the kids and make one of these solar system mats via Let It Be Montessori. HOWEVER, I think it would be a little cooler to make a carpet or blanket.

You could use a long zippers for the circles. Then you could attach the planets to the zipper heads and they could travel along the circles. I also like the idea of making the planets soft. If you made a carpet you could use this Ikea rug.

Also, I wish I could make the planets proportionate to each other but I think that might be impossible on a blanket;) I don't think kids get a good grasp of how different in size they really are. Let along how different in size our sun is to others. OH, I could go on and on.

Picket Fencing for Hiding Cords

August 28, 2012

I posted about this on my old blog years ago but I think it's worth reposting! Can be easily made with with either wood or foam core board and double stick foam tape. Foam core board would be a lot easier to cut. Great idea for hiding cords in kids rooms! I searched high and low and cannot find the original source. Does anyone happen to know it?

Pointed DIY Roller Shades

I know these aren't roller shades but I think you could achieve the same look with them. Remember the DIY ribbon shades I made? Below could be another take on it! Via Lori Graham. Try cutting your roller shade into a rounded point and apply a wide ribbon around edges. You'll have to remove the plastic stick at the end of the shade to cut it into a point so you need to buy one that is thick enough not to get wrinkled easily. I would also recommend gluing the plastic stick to the back of the roller shade just above the point so you can't see it. Do this so that the shade doesn't wrinkle when you roll it back up. I actually love roller shades much better than roman ones. They're just a cinch to open and close and I need all the time savers I can get;)

Rain Cloud Quilt

Oh good night! I love this quilt. The letters would be the most tedious and difficult part I imagine. But even without the words it's awesome. Would be a great gift for a baby shower. Get the pattern at The Vintage Clothespin.

Faux Stained Glass Window Tutorial with DecoArt!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of DecoArt's Glass Stain. All opinions are 100% mine.
We have this issue with our front door. It's the only thing that separates us from the rest of the world. No foyer, no sprawling yard. Only a few short feet away is the sidewalk where people (strangers) can stroll by and see directly into our house. But DecoArt's faux stained glass is here to help!
The other issue is that our home is very dark on the inside. I need to expose all the light I can get. So covering up the windows is not a great option either. Enter DecoArt!
DecoArt has this amazing line of all sorts of paints you can use to decorate glass.
Americana Gloss Enamels have excellent coverage and a superb gloss finish that make them the best paint for decorating glass, tiles, glazed ceramics, and other non-porous surfaces.
Glass stain (which I used for this project) permanent, transparent colors with a glossy sheen ideal for filling suncatchers or staining on glass or clear plastic.
For this project I used their clear glass stain.
I went to a glass shop and had them cut their cheapest plexiglass for me in the sizes that I needed. All together this cost $25. To make the design first, I used the black 3D opaque gloss enamel to create my lines. I outlined the edges of the plexiglass.
Then I made a square design and printed it out on my computer. If you like this design, just copy the jpeg below.
I then taped them together to the size of my plexiglass pieces.
I then placed the paper under the plexiglass and traced the design with the black.
I let dry 24 hours. When I came back I applied DecoArt's clear glass stain. To make the glass look warped like real stained glass I applied the liquid in squiggly lines.
I let dry 24 hours. When everything was dry I hot glued the plexiglass pieces in my window! Done.

Butterfly Towels for the Beach

August 26, 2012

Chasing Fireflies always has the best stuff I swear. Check out these cute butterfly beach towels. They'll set you back about $60 which I think might be a little expensive for a towel but you could also totally DIY this. It looks like it has pockets for your child's hands and a hood for their head. I wouldn't buy terrycloth fabric from the fabric store I would just buy cheap store bought towels instead. I've found that most fabric store terrycloth is one sided, expensive and has a limited color selection. If you go to an outlet store or Walmart and buy towels for about $3 a piece you'll have a better selection and better quality towel.

Storage for Those Ultra-Light Umbrella Strollers

You know how umbrella strollers rarely have any storage? I bet you could totally DIY (and I'd love to try my hand at a pattern for this) this but you can also purchase on Infantino for only $15. It's the perfect baby shower gift for that mom that has everything already. Insulated for drinks!

Lemon Place Settings

I really do love this. It's so easy but adorable. Via Marie Claire Idees.
